Works
Overview
His work responds to a definition of art as an act of resistance, as a biopolitical gesture that reveals his critical stance towards the contemporary world subsumed by capitalist biopower.
His interdisciplinary disposition has led him to propose “de-generate” aesthetic products that fluctuate between form and content, and between traditional and experimental narratives. The place of configuration of these narratives leans more towards a creative conduct than towards a traditional disciplinary skillset, thus resorting to a possible subversion of the particularities and limits of artistic languages. He carries out acts of resistance and micro political gestures that unveil his position and point of view regarding the contemporary world.

Biography

Mario Opazo is a visual artist and audiovisual producer of Chilean origin, lives and works in Bogota, and is a professor at the National University of Colombia. His work is developed through contemporary artistic languages: experimental video, installation, performance and literary writing mainly, assuming migratory and multimodal linguistic relations; behavior that, being experimental, is subversive and reveals his critical position against the ballast of stagnant grammatical gestures, present in the form of society, politics and contemporary culture. His interdisciplinary spirit has led him to propose aesthetic products that are "ungenerated" and fluctuating between content, medium, and context; between traditional and experimental narratives that locate their place of configuration more in creative behavior than in disciplinary skills and abilities, turning to a possible expansion of the limits and particularities of artistic languages. Opazo performs resistance actions as mico political gestures that reveal his position and critical point of view in front of the current world.
He has participated in important events such as: the 52nd Venice International Art Biennial, the 10th Havana Biennial, and the II Mercosur Biennial and in several years at the Rencontres Internationales Paris / Berlin / Madrid at the Centre Georges Pompidou and Beaux-arts in Paris and at the Museo Nacional Reina Sofía in Madrid.
